We love Oreos around here and have tons of Oreo recipes available on this blog, like Oreo Cinnamon Rolls, Oreo Bundt Cake, and Cookies and Cream Pizookie.
But the one recipe that the kids keep asking for over and over again is these Oreo Rice Krispie bars, and can you blame them? They're sooo good! And compared to baked goods, these are pretty easy to make too.

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe
- They're easy to make. While there is an extra step or two to make these bars, they are totally worth it. These are even easier to make than Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats (or at least, that's what I think).
- They're delicious! From the chocolate cookies to the white chocolate, everything about these squares will leave you wanting more.
- Simple ingredients. We don't need much to make this recipe, and the ingredients needed are all simple and basic, making them great for a minimalistic shopping list.
🛒 Ingredients

Butter - Salted or unsalted both work, but salted adds a little extra flavor.
Marshmallows - Large or mini marshmallows are fine. Large ones make the treats slightly gooier. You can also use marshmallow fluff.
White chocolate - White chocolate chips add a creamy cookies-and-cream flavor and help soften the texture. You'll also need a little extra for the topping.
See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.
🔀 Substitutions & Variations
Use differently flavored Oreos! Try different Oreo flavors to change things up! Mint Oreos are perfect for St. Patrick's Day, and Golden Oreos make a great everyday swap. Add rainbow sprinkles for an instant birthday theme.
💰 Budget-Friendly Tips
Choose Affordable Cookies. Use either name-brand or store-brand Oreo-style cookies, both work great. Store-brand cookies can save a few dollars without sacrificing flavor.
Stretch the Ingredients. Chop a few extra cookies and sprinkle them over the top of the bars. It gives a bakery-style look and boosts the chocolate flavor without using a full second package.
Buy in Bulk When Possible. Marshmallows, cereal, and baking chocolate are usually cheaper in larger bags. These ingredients store well and can be used in other no-bake treats.
Use Leftover Oreos Wisely. Any leftover cookies can be turned into other easy desserts like 3 Ingredient Oreo Fudge or Oreo Bread Pudding.

👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
- Grease Everything: Grease the pan, spatula, and even your hands to prevent sticking. Butter or nonstick spray both work well.
- Melt Low and Slow: Cook the marshmallows and butter over medium-low heat. Higher heat can make the mixture stiff instead of soft and gooey.
- Cool Before Cutting: Let the treats cool for about an hour before slicing. Lining the pan with parchment helps lift them out easily.
❄️ Storage
Room Temperature: Store in an airtight container or zipper-top bag for up to 1-2 weeks. They taste best within the first few days.
Freezer: Wrap squares individually or place in an airtight container. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before eating.
🥗 Side Dishes or Pairing Ideas
These treats pair well with a cold glass of milk, hot chocolate, or white hot chocolate. They're also great with vanilla or cookies-and-cream ice cream, fruity drinks like berry lemonade, or a small bowl of fresh fruit. Cookies and Cream Milkshakes or other simple milkshakes make a fun pairing too.

❓ Recipe FAQs
Yes, absolutely! Simply use any margarine instead of butter and follow the recipe as requested. The end result should be a soft texture that tastes fabulous. Another great alternative is to use coconut oil instead of butter, but it will leave a coconut flavor behind.
If you overcook, over-stir, or overheat your marshmallows and butter then you can easily end up with hard cereal treats. I recommend cooking at a low to medium temperature. Slow might take longer, but it won't overheat, and stirring every once in a while keeps you from overworking the sugars too.
No, you do not need to (nor do I recommend) refrigerating your rice krispie treats. While you can place them in the fridge, they will become hard to bite into once chilled. Placing them in the fridge won't extend their shelf life too much either (maybe just a day or so).
