Fluffernutter sandwiches, marrying marshmallow fluff and peanut butter on bread, reach new heights with the addition of crispy golden grilled bread.

This warm, gooey, and nostalgic treat elevates childhood flavors by grilling them in buttery, golden-brown sandwiches.

A delightful blend of sweet, salty, and creamy, it offers a satisfying bite that evokes cherished memories. For another nostalgic treat, try our Fluffernutter Peanut Butter Cookies.

My daughter adores lunchtime when we have fluffernutters, but the day I made fried fluffernutter sandwiches on the griddle, I blew her mind.

Her priceless reaction led to a plate licked clean, proving you can't go wrong with a peanut butter-filled gooey marshmallow fluff sandwich.

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. The ultimate fluffernutter. You don't have to fry this sandwich, but you really should. Crispy, buttery bread with gooey fillings makes it completely irresistible.
  2. Simple ingredients. This recipe keeps things easy with just a few basic ingredients, which is part of what makes it so good.
  3. Perfect for "just because." When you want to make lunch a little extra or more fun, this sandwich delivers. It's a great change of pace from classics like Baked Grilled Cheese, Southern Egg Salad, and Frozen Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches.

🛒 Ingredients

labeled ingredients needed to make this grilled fluffnutter sandwich.

Sandwich bread- You can use your favorite sandwich bread, including gluten free, whole wheat, or even buttermilk.

Creamy peanut butter- Crunchy would work too, but creamy is our favorite. Use your favorite nut butter.

Marshmallow fluff- A small container of fluff will make a lot of sandwiches! If you have more fluff, try it in these Rice Krispie Treats with Marshmallow Fluff.

Butter- Softened butter or whatever you use for rubbing on the outside of a grilled cheese sandwich before toasting mayo not recommended).

See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.

💰 Budget-Friendly Tips

Use store-brand bread and spreads: Generic sandwich bread, peanut butter, and marshmallow fluff work just as well and cost less.

Stretch the fillings: A thin, even layer of peanut butter and fluff still delivers flavor without overusing ingredients.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

  1. Easy prep. If you've made a fluffernutter or grilled cheese before, this sandwich will feel familiar and simple.
  2. Fast cooking. Peanut butter and marshmallow fluff melt quickly, so these sandwiches cook faster than grilled cheese.
  3. Keep it low heat. Use low heat so the fillings melt without burning the bread. You can even make one in the microwave, similar to a microwave grilled cheese, with adjusted timing.

❄️ Storage and Make Ahead

Storage: These Grilled Fluffernutter Sandwiches are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be wrapped tightly and stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.

Make Ahead: You can assemble the sandwiches ahead of time without buttering the outside. Store wrapped in the fridge, then butter and grill when ready to eat.
