We love Oreos, cookies, and all things sweet (doesn't everybody?) But one of our favorite desserts comes from a local restaurant called BJ's. There they have homemade sodas and THE BEST pizookies. While going out isn't always an option, staying in and making our own tasty desserts can be.

These cookies are a perfect fusion of crunchy and chewy textures, with an irresistible combination of chocolate and cream that Oreo lovers will adore. Baking them into mini cast irons ensures they stay soft on the inside while developing a delightful crispiness around the edges.

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. Make it ahead. Prep the dough earlier in the day and chill it in the fridge so dessert is just a quick bake away after dinner.
  2. Serve it a la mode. A scoop of vanilla ice cream makes this extra special, but the cookies are just as good on their own. You can also pair them with homemade ice cream like Peanut Butter Mason Jar Ice Cream or Chocolate Mason Jar Ice Cream.
  3. Campfire friendly. Need a make ahead camping dessert? This recipe works beautifully baked in an oven or cooked over a campfire, and it turns out delicious either way.

🛒 Ingredients

Butter. Adds richness and moisture to the cookie dough. Use salted or unsalted, whatever you have on hand.

Sugars. A mix of brown sugar and granulated sugar creates a perfectly sweet, chewy texture.

Oreos. These give the cookies their classic cookies and cream flavor. If you have extra, try Oreo Bread Pudding, 3 Ingredient Oreo Fudge, or Oreo Buttercream Frosting.

See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.

💰 Budget-Friendly Tips

Use store brand cookies: Generic sandwich cookies work just as well and cost less.

Bake as one skillet: Using a single larger skillet instead of individual portions saves energy and cleanup.

Skip the ice cream topping: The cookie is rich on its own and still delicious without added cost.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

  1. Chill for better flavor. Chilling the dough is optional, but it helps the flavors come together and improves the overall taste.
  2. Try different Oreos. Use any Oreo variety you like or have on hand. Java chip or mint Oreos add a fun twist.
  3. Do not overfill. The dough will spread as it bakes, so leave room in the pan. This also makes space for ice cream without it sliding off.
  4. Watch for doneness. The edges should look set, while the center should be soft and no longer glossy.
  5. Handle with care. Cast iron stays hot for a long time, so use caution and protect your hands when moving the pans.

❄️ Storage and Make Ahead

Storage: Store leftover cookie skillets covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Make Ahead: Cookie dough can be prepared and refrigerated for up to 2 days before baking.

🥗 Side Dishes or Pairing Ideas

❓ Recipe FAQs

Can I make Oreo pizookies in advance?

Yes, you can prep the dough for this oreo pizookie recipe and keep it covered in the fridge up to 2 days in advance. You can also bake the Oreo pizookies and after they've cooled, keep them well covered at room temperature for up to 3 days. Pizookies are better when warm and fresh from the oven so you might want to reheat or bake before serving.

Can I cook pizookies over a campfire?

Yes, you can cook these skillet cookies over a campfire. Keep it out of direct heat and cook until the edges look set and the cookie looks mostly firmed. Covering the tops with foil for a few minutes can help to distribute the heat and cook more evenly around the tops of the cookies.
