💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. Simple and minimal. Made with just a few basic ingredients and only one bowl, so there are fewer dishes to wash.
  2. Quick to prep. The batter comes together in about the same time it takes the oven to preheat. While not quite as fast as 3 Ingredient Banana Bread or Jiffy Banana Cornbread, it still takes just minutes.
  3. Always a favorite. One Bowl Banana Bread is welcome any time of year, and this one chocolate version is an easy, reliable recipe your family will love.

🛒 Ingredients

labeled ingredients needed to make one bowl chocolate chip banana bread.

Ripe bananas. Use spotted, ripe bananas for the best sweetness and flavor. If you have extras, try Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Banana Bread and Chocolate Orange Banana Bread.

Sugars. A mix of granulated sugar and brown sugar adds sweetness and depth of flavor.

Chocolate chips. Semi sweet or milk chocolate chips add rich chocolate flavor to the banana bread.

See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.

💰 Budget-Friendly Tips

Use overripe or discounted bananas: Many grocery stores sell ripe bananas at a discount, and they add natural sweetness while preventing food waste.

Freeze bananas for baking: Peel and freeze ripe bananas so none go to waste and you always have some ready.

Choose store-brand chocolate chips: They melt the same and usually cost much less.

🥄 Instructions for One Bowl Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2: Grease an 8x4 loaf pan and set it aside.

Mash bananas, add oil, baking soda, salt. Mix well.

Step 3: Add your peeled ripe bananas to a large mixing bowl (Image 1).

Step 4: Mash until no large chunks remain (Image 2).

Step 5: Add in the vegetable oil, baking soda, and salt (Image 3).

stir in chocolate chips. pour into bread loaf pan and bake. let cool.

Step 11: Fold in the chocolate chips (Image 9).

Step 12: Pour the batter into your prepared bread pan (Image 10).

Step 13: Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick can be inserted and come out clean (Image 11).

Step 14: Let rest in the bread pan for 10 minutes before flipping onto a wire cooling rack to finish cooling completely (Image 12).

I recommend waiting at least 1 hour before slicing into your bread loaf so that the chocolate can set and be less messy when sliced.

Serve and enjoy!

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

  1. Customize the chocolate. Use regular, mini, or jumbo chocolate chips to suit your preference.
  2. Adjust flavor and sweetness. Melted butter adds richer flavor, and you can increase the sugar slightly if you prefer a sweeter loaf. Follow the recipe card notes to keep the banana flavor balanced.

❄️ Storage, Reheating & Make Ahead

Storage: Store banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-5 days.

Reheating: Warm slices in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to soften and slightly melt the chocolate.

Make Ahead: Bake the loaf a day in advance and let it cool completely before storing. The bread can also be frozen for up to 3 months and thawed before serving.

🥗 Side Dishes or Pairing Ideas

Serve with coffee, milk, or tea for breakfast. Fresh fruit, yogurt, or a smear of peanut butter makes it a more filling snack.

❓ Recipe FAQs

What oil can I use in banana bread?

You can use vegetable oil, canola oil, butter, or even coconut oil depending on what you have on hand or are looking to achieve. Each will add a little fat into the bread to make it moist but butter can help to make the flavor a little richer while coconut oil makes it healthier and adds a coconut flavor.

How long is chocolate chip banana bread good for?

If properly stored in an airtight container at room temperature, your easy chocolate chip banana bread can last about 3-5 days and still taste great.

Why did my banana bread sink in the middle?

This can happen if the banana bread is undercooked in the center or if you overmix the batter, causing it to collapse. Ensure it's fully baked and avoid excessive mixing.
