We love the air fryer and it is so perfect for summer because it's fast and doesn't heat up the house. One of our favorite things to cook in it is sandwiches- from an Air Fryer Peanut Butter and Jelly to an Air Fryer Club Sandwich, everything tastes great!
This air fryer sandwich melt is right up there in our top favorites. It'll be love at first bite and it's not hard to see why. Turkey and cheese are a classic duo but when they get warmed up, it's nothing but comfort in every bite, just like our Air Fryer Grilled Ham and Cheese.

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe
- It's really fast! From start to finish you can enjoy this sandwich in less than 10 minutes. The hands-on time is roughly 2 to 3 minutes and then there are about 5 minutes of patience required as the air fryer does its thing.
- Easy/minimal prep work. This is exactly like making grilled cheese, except you're adding meat to make it an air fryer turkey and cheese sandwich. If you can make one, you can definitely make the other!
- Evenly toasted bread. Making Baked Grilled Cheese, on a griddle, or even a microwave grilled cheese can result in unevenly toasted bread. The air fryer cooks the bread more evenly than any other method I've ever seen, giving you the most picture-perfect results every time.
🛒 Ingredients

Sandwich bread- You're going to want some sliced sandwich bread for this recipe. You can use any bread of choice, such as white bread, whole wheat, or even low carb.
Turkey meat- You can use sliced turkey deli meat or even leftover turkey from your holiday dinners. Great for using up Air Fryer Turkey Breast!
Sliced cheese- Use any sliced cheese of preference. We like to use American cheese or Muenster depending on what we have on hand.
See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.
💰 Budget-Friendly Tips
Use store-brand deli meat. Store-brand turkey is often half the price of name-brand and tastes identical once melted with cheese.
Choose affordable cheese. American cheese slices or Aldi varieties melt beautifully and cost far less than specialty cheeses.
Pick budget bread. Regular white or wheat sandwich bread toasts perfectly in the air fryer, no need for bakery loaves.
Stretch leftovers. Leftover Air Fryer Turkey Breast works great and reduces food waste, making this an even cheaper meal.

👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
- Securing the Bread. During cooking, the top piece of bread may fly off due to swirling air. Prevent this by using toothpicks or a small trivet. After 3 minutes, check to ensure it stays in place. If not, cook for an extra 2 minutes.
- Notes on Flipping. Once flipped, the top bread won't darken further. Ensure it's the desired color before flipping.
- Double the Cheese. Use two slices of cheese, one on each side of the meat, for added stability. This helps prevent the sandwich from falling apart when handled.
🥗 Side Dishes or Pairing Ideas

❓ Recipe FAQs
Yes, deli meat is fine and safe to place into the air fryer basket and will heat up wonderfully as it does so. You can use any number of deli meats for this sandwich if desired.
The most popular choices include American cheese, cheddar, swiss, provolone, mozzarella, or Colby Jack. We usually prefer Muenster cheese because it's a good melting cheese that isn't too strong in flavor.
Your sandwich will only take about 5-8 minutes at 360 degrees F depending on how dark you want it to be. Just make sure to flip the sandwich over about halfway through the cooking process.
