💰 Budget-Friendly Tips
Use Store Brands: Generic waffles, milk, and cinnamon taste the same and cost less.
Buy in Bulk: Larger boxes of waffles are cheaper per serving and freeze well.
Stretch the Batter: Add a splash more milk if needed to coat more waffles without mixing another batch.
Skip the Syrup Splurge: Use butter, powdered sugar, or fruit instead of pricier flavored syrups.
🥄 How to Make French Toast with Frozen Waffles
Step 1: Heat Eggos on a plate in the microwave for about 30 sec-1 min until soft and no longer frozen.

Step 2: Add egg, milk, cinnamon and vanilla to a pie plate or large bowl.

Step 3: Whisk together until well blended.
Step 4: Heat a greased skillet over medium heat until the water sizzles. This shows that the pan is hot and ready. Grease it once it's warmed up.

Step 5: Dip a waffle in the egg mixture.

Step 6: Flip to coat both sides completely.

Step 7: Lay the waffle in the pan and cook until golden, about 2 minutes.

Step 8: Flip and cook the other side for another 2 minutes or until golden.
Step 9: The edges will look crisp and cooked, but the pockets may appear wetter. Any egg whites should appear white and not translucent.
Step 10: Repeat until all waffles have been cooked. Serve with butter and syrup.
For a fun, flavorful twist, try different flavors of waffles like blueberry, chocolate chip, or cinnamon. Yum!

👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
- Thaw Waffles. For this recipe, use thawed waffles, whether Eggo or another brand. If you lack a microwave, warm and heat the waffles in a toaster until no longer frozen. The objective is to remove the chill before making french toast.
- Waffle Brands. Feel free to substitute other waffle brands for Eggo; the recipe works equally well with any brand.
❄️ Storage, Reheating & Make Ahead
Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container or bag in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Reheating: Toast or air fry for crisp edges, or microwave 10-15 seconds for a quick reheating.
Make Ahead: Cook waffles, cool completely, then freeze in a single layer before bagging. Reheat from frozen in the toaster or skillet. No thawing needed.

❓ Recipe FAQs
Eggo brand makes gluten free waffles so yes, you can buy GF waffles and make your own GF Eggo french toast. If you can't find Eggo brand, I recommend trying Van's brand. It's delicious!
Milk is a common ingredient in many waffle French toast recipes, as it adds creaminess to the batter and helps create a desirable texture. However, it is possible to make waffle French toast without milk.
If you prefer or need a milk substitute, you can use almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, or any other non-dairy milk that suits your dietary preferences. Additionally, you can use water as a milk alternative, but the resulting batter will be less rich and flavorful.
Popular toppings for French toast include maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar, whipped cream, nut butter, and sliced bananas. You can get creative with your favorite toppings.

📖 Recipe
French Toast with Frozen Waffles
Ingredients
- 8 frozen Eggo waffles - ($1.80)
- 2 large eggs - ($0.30)
- ¼ cup milk - ($0.05)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon - ($0.08)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract - ($0.01)
Instructions
- Warm waffles. Heat the frozen waffles on a microwave-safe plate for 30 seconds to 1 minute, just until softened and no longer frozen.
- Mix custard. In a shallow bowl or pie plate, whisk together the eggs, milk, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Preheat skillet. Heat a skillet over medium heat until a few drops of water sizzle. Lightly grease the pan once hot.
- Dip waffles. Dip each waffle into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly.
- Cook. Place the waffle in the skillet and cook for about 2 minutes per side, until golden brown. The edges should look crisp and the egg fully cooked, even if the waffle pockets appear slightly softer.
- Repeat and serve. Continue until all waffles are cooked. Serve warm with butter and syrup.
Notes
- Waffle prep. Waffles must be thawed before dipping. A toaster works just as well as the microwave.
- Brands. Any frozen waffle brand works, not just Eggo.
- Flavor swaps. Try flavored waffles like blueberry, chocolate chip, or cinnamon for variety.

These are yummy and easy! I only got 5 waffles out of mix but that’s no problem. I have 3 of the 5 for leftovers. I love reheating in the skillet.
