Peppermint is one of my favorite winter flavors, and I love enjoying it in various ways, from sipping hot coffee with peppermint creamer in the morning to indulging in White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn or Candy Cane Shortbread Cookies in the evening.

Now, with this mint iced coffee, I can keep that peppermint flavor alive even during the warmer seasons, making it a perfect choice to enjoy at home over ice. (It's also great for after-season Clean Out the Pantry Challenges when I'm trying to use up leftover candy canes).

This iced peppermint latte brings together the refreshing mint and the smooth coffee taste, creating a delightful drink that keeps you feeling rejuvenated all winter (or summer) long.

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. It's quick and customizable. Making coffee at home is not only more convenient but also allows you to customize it to your exact preferences, whether it's the strength, sweetness, or any special flavors you desire.
  2. You won't need anything fancy. All you need is coffee, ice, some flavoring, milk, and sweetener. But hey, don't forget to top it off with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of peppermint for some extra fun!
  3. No waiting around. Say goodbye to the hassle of putting on shoes, hunting for your car keys, and standing in line for ages with a bunch of strangers at Starbucks. When you make your coffee at home, you get to enjoy the simple things without any fuss. Plus, it's a budget-friendly alternative to daily coffee shop trips, saving you both time and money. 🛒 Ingredients

labeled ingredients needed to make peppermint iced coffee.

Ice- You will need a few cups of ice cubes to chill your drink down. Prepare for more ice if using hot coffee because it'll melt quickly.

Coffee- You can use your favorite freshly brewed (or chilled) coffee. (Note that warm coffee will dissolve the sugar more quickly).

Milk- To help cut down on some bitter coffee taste, you'll want to use some milk. Use any milk of preference, but I prefer higher fat milk like whole milk or heavy cream.

Peppermint Extract- To give your coffee that candy cane flavor, you'll want to use peppermint extract, NOT mint extract. Mint extract is what we use in Homemade Shamrock Shakes, and the two are not the same kind of mint.

See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.

🔀 Substitutions & Variations

Change up the flavor:

Want espresso? Swap out the coffee for 1-2 shots of freshly brewed espresso for a strong coffee, or add a shot of espresso for more caffeine.

Want a hint of vanilla? Just toss in a teaspoon of vanilla extract when your coffee is hot for a delightful vanilla-peppermint combo.

Craving chocolate? Turn it into an iced peppermint mocha by adding a tablespoon of cocoa powder or two tablespoons of chocolate syrup. You can also switch out the milk and peppermint extract for some peppermint mocha coffee creamer. You can even use white chocolate for a seasonal twist on this Iced White Chocolate Mocha!

Going dairy-free? No problem! Swap out regular milk for a dairy-free option like almond milk or oat milk, and you can find store-bought coconut whipped cream for topping if you like.

💰 Budget-Friendly Tips

Use leftover coffee: Brew extra in the morning and chill it for later instead of making a fresh batch.

Buy mint seasonally: Candy canes go on clearance after the holidays. Crush and store them for year-round peppermint drinks. Shopping seasonally can help give the biggest bang for your buck.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

  1. You can adjust the coffee to your own taste buds by adding in more sweeteners, milk, or peppermint extract (be careful, as a little extract goes a long way!)

❄️ Make Ahead Instructions

Make Ahead: Brew the coffee ahead of time and chill it in the refrigerator until ready to use. Combine the chilled coffee, maple syrup, and milk in a pitcher (without ice) and refrigerate for up to a few hours before serving. When ready to enjoy, stir well and pour over ice to serve chilled.

🥗 Side Dishes or Pairing Ideas

Pair your Peppermint Iced Coffee with chocolate desserts like brownies, cookies, or muffins for a classic mint-chocolate combo. It also goes great with buttery pastries such as croissants or scones. For a lighter option, enjoy it with fresh fruit, yogurt, or a simple breakfast sandwich.

❓ Peppermint Iced Coffee FAQs

How can I make peppermint coffee low calorie?

Instead of using whole fat milk use unsweetened almond milk. The calories for 1 cup of almond milk are significantly less than a cup of whole milk and as a result, your drink will be very "skinny" and low calorie.

Can I use a sugar alternative?

I have used Truvia sweetener with this coffee recipe and loved it! You can use a sugar alternative that's similar to sugar (like Truvia or Stevia), or you can use maple syrup or even monk fruit.

How can I make this drink stronger?

By using freshly brewed espresso or a strongly brewed coffee you can make this drink stronger in both coffee taste as well as caffeine content. To make strongly brewed coffee, reduce the amount of water used or increase the coffee grounds used so that it's about 2 tablespoons of ground coffee to 6 ounces of water.

Is peppermint good in coffee?

Peppermint, a beloved holiday flavor, can add a refreshing and festive flavor to coffee.
