Making maple syrup iced coffee is simple and easy and perfect for a chilled drink. Enjoy on a warm or hot day and really feel refreshed!

This maple coffee drink and my Cinnamon Toast Crunch Latte are both perfect for fall, but this homemade iced coffee recipe has the added bonus of being better for the heat waves, while lattes and Homemade Pumpkin Spice Creamer are better for the "false winters" as we call them.

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. It's naturally sweetened. Maple syrup iced coffee is naturally sweetened with maple syrup instead of refined sugar. This is great for anyone trying to avoid or reduce refined sugars in their diets.
  2. You can use your favorite coffee grounds. By using your favorite coffee, you can be guaranteed that you'll enjoy this drink. I like to use medium roast Columbian or Arabica coffee.
  3. Use some dairy free milk for a lower calorie drink. For lower calories, you can swap out whole cow's milk for oat milk or almond milk. Any milk will work fine, so choose whichever you think would be best.

Coffee- Use hot or cold brewed coffee. Warmer coffee will dissolve sugars quicker, but cold coffee won't melt the ice cubes as quickly.

Maple syrup- You will need to use pure maple syrup for the best sweetness and fall flavor, but if in a pinch, cheaper pancake syrup will work. Note that you may need a little more to get your coffee sweeter and that the maple flavor may not be as strong.

Cinnamon- This is an optional garnish to sprinkle on top of the whipped cream. Ground cinnamon adds a little warm spice to your cold drink.

💰 Budget-Friendly Tips

Use leftover coffee: Brew a bigger pot in the morning and chill what's left for iced drinks throughout the week. No extra cost or waste.

Swap maple syrup: Real maple syrup is pricey. Use pancake syrup, brown sugar syrup, or regular sugar for a much cheaper sweetener option.

Dilute with extra ice: Adding more ice stretches your drink further and reduces how much coffee and milk you use.

🥄 Instructions for Maple Syrup Iced Coffee

Step 1: Brew your coffee and allow it a few minutes to cool as you gather the necessary ingredients.

Step 2: Add your maple syrup to the bottom of a tall drinking glass.

Step 3: Pour in the coffee. Stir to combine.

Step 4: Carefully fill the cup with ice cubes, bringing it about an inch or two from the rim of the glass.

Step 6: Stir gently to combine. The drink will lighten in color.

Taste and adjust as needed.

Serve immediately and enjoy!

📖 Hot Coffee Version

While maple syrup in iced coffee is delicious, it also makes for a tasty warm drink as well.

  • You can make a hot version of this iced drink by brewing the coffee into a mug and adding in the maple syrup. Stir to combine. Let it rest for a little while as you prepare the milk.
  • Add milk to a small pot on the stove and whisk constantly until frothy and warm.
  • Add to the coffee. Stir gently to combine, but leave some frothy bubbles on the top of your coffee.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

For a stronger maple flavor. Iced coffee with maple syrup does not have a very strong maple flavor and if that is what you're looking for, then I recommend adding in ¼ teaspoon of maple flavored extract.

❄️ Make Ahead Instructions

Make Ahead: Brew the coffee ahead of time and chill it in the refrigerator until ready to use. Combine the chilled coffee, maple syrup, and milk in a pitcher (without ice) and refrigerate for up to a few hours before serving. When ready to enjoy, stir well and pour over ice to serve chilled.

Pair Maple Syrup Iced Coffee with breakfast favorites like pancakes, waffles, or French toast to complement the sweet maple flavor. It also goes well with pastries such as muffins, scones, or cinnamon rolls. For a lighter option, enjoy it alongside yogurt, oatmeal, or fresh fruit.

It does! Much like adding this microwave simple syrup, maple syrup helps to seamlessly integrate into the coffee because it's already a liquid consistency. Adding sweetness and leaving behind a very subtle maple flavor, it pairs perfectly with your morning coffee.

Is maple syrup in coffee healthier than sugar?

Maple syrup is a better sweetener option than regular sugar but both have their own properties and uses.

What grade of maple syrup is best for coffee?

Real maple syrup has different grades to help showcase which uses would be best for which variety. For coffee, you should look for maple syrup rated grade A as it has the best flavor. Grade B is a great option too!

Instructions

  • Sweeten. Add maple syrup to the bottom of a tall glass.
  • Add coffee. Pour in coffee and stir to combine.
  • Add ice. Fill the glass with ice, leaving about 1 to 2 inches of space at the top.
  • Add milk. Pour in milk and stir gently until combined.
  • Finish. Top with whipped cream and a pinch of cinnamon if using. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Hot Version. Brew coffee into a mug and stir in maple syrup. Warm milk on the stove while whisking until frothy, then pour over coffee, leaving foam on top.
  • Flavor Boost. Add up to ¼ teaspoon maple extract for a stronger maple flavor.
  • Make Ahead. Brew and chill coffee in advance. Mix coffee, maple syrup, and milk ahead and refrigerate. Add ice just before serving to avoid dilution.
