French toast sticks are such a deliciously nostalgic treat for me, but cooking them up in the air fryer brings them a new life, thanks to modern-day technology.

While making french toast recipes like Muffin Mix French Toast, French Toast with Frozen Waffles, and Sourdough French Toast are easy enough, sometimes time is of the essence and we can't stand over a stove or griddle to cook everything.

Making frozen French toast sticks in the air fryer is simple and easy, perfect for a no-hassle breakfast. Set the timer and walk away. You can even use Freezer French Toast too! Perfect for the meal preppers.

If you love cooking up breakfast foods in the air fryer, then you're also going to love my Air Fryer Frozen Waffles and Air Fryer Biscuit Donuts!

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. It's easy! Plop the sticks in the fryer, cook, flip, and cook a little more. This recipe is simple and so easy to make that you may find it on the menu a few times this week.
  2. You can make several servings at once. In the microwave, you can only cook a few on a plate at a time (according to the package directions). In the air fryer, you can cook as many as you can comfortably fit in the basket. Perfect for heating up everyone's food at one time instead of shuffling plates in and out of the microwave all morning.
  3. It's not time consuming. While this recipe does take a tad longer than using the microwave, it still doesn't take too long. Within 5 minutes, you can have a few servings worth of french toast ready to eat. I usually use that time to locate my kid's missing shoes or the car keys if it's a school day.

🛒 Ingredients

labeled ingredients needed to make air fryer frozen french toast sticks.

French toast sticks- Use your favorite brand (or use homemade french toast sticks). I like to use the Aldi brand, but any of them will work just fine. Note that you do NOT need to thaw them beforehand.

See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.

💰 Budget-Friendly Tips

Buy store-brand: Generic frozen French toast sticks are usually $1-$2 cheaper per box than name brands and taste nearly identical.

Shop sales & stock up: These go on sale often, grab a few boxes when they hit their lowest price and keep them in the freezer for easy breakfasts.

Portion control: Serving with fruit (like bananas or apples) helps stretch a box across more servings without increasing the cost much.

Air fryer savings: Cooking in the air fryer uses less energy than an oven and gets them crispier than the microwave. Better texture for the same price.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

  1. Try different flavors. Looking to switch up your French toast? Give the cinnamon sugar French toast sticks a try for an incredibly flavorful twist!
  2. Flipping is important. For even crispiness all around, don't forget to flip the French toast halfway through cooking.
  3. No need to thaw. Thawing is not required before cooking the sticks.
  4. Try to keep an even layer. Ensure the frozen sticks are arranged in the air fryer without overlapping to avoid cold spots.
  5. No spray needed. Pre-greasing the air fryer basket is unnecessary.
  6. Air fryers may vary. Keep an eye on cooking time, as it may vary depending on your specific air fryer model. Adjust accordingly for the best results.

❄️ Storage, Reheating & Make Ahead

Storage: Store leftover French toast sticks in an airtight container or zip-top bag in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days. They taste best fresh but can still be enjoyed later if stored properly.

Reheating: Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 2-3 minutes, or until warmed through and crispy. You can also microwave them for 20-30 seconds, but they won't be as crisp.

Make Ahead: For easy breakfasts, prepare a batch ahead of time and store in the fridge for quick reheating during the week.
