💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. It's cheap. With just a few simple ingredients, including basic pantry staple seasonings, this recipe is really affordable.
  2. It's quick! Made in just a matter of minutes and prepped in practically seconds, this dish is so fast and low maintenance that it will no doubt be your go-to recipe for years. (It's about as simple as The Best Canned Green Bean Recipe).
  3. It's delicious. Corn is already an awesome veggie on its own, but adding butter and seasonings really helps to elevate the dish to new heights.

🛒 Ingredients

labeled ingredients needed to make air fryer corn.

Canned corn- You will want to use a can of whole kernel corn for this recipe. I often look for the low sodium or no salt added variety but feel free to use your favorite. If you still have corn leftover, try our other Easy Canned Corn Recipe.

Seasonings- Using seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika really helps to make this corn look and taste incredible.

See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.

🔀 Substitutions & Variations

Paprika. You can use regular paprika for this recipe or (my personal favorite) smoked paprika. Both taste incredible and give a nice touch of color to the corn.

Canned corn. If you don't have or do not wish to use canned corn, you can replace the 15 ounce can of corn with a 16 ounce sized bag of frozen corn instead. No thawing is needed. If all you have is corn on the cob, be sure to try our Air Fryer Corn on the Cob.

💰 Budget-Friendly Tips

Use store-brand corn. Store-brand canned veggies are usually identical in quality but can cost 30-50% less than name brands.

Buy in bulk. Grab multi-packs of canned corn at warehouse stores or during seasonal sales (Thanksgiving and summer grilling season often have the lowest prices).

Swap butter for oil. If you're running low on butter, a small drizzle of olive oil or vegetable oil still gives great flavor at a lower price.

🥄 Instructions for Air Fryer Canned Corn

Step 1: First, find an oven safe baking dish that can fit within your air fryer. I used an 8 inch cake pan and had plenty of space in my 8 quart air fryer, but you may need to use a different pan depending on what size your air fryer is.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

Sodium Reduction:

  • Check Labels. When aiming to cut sodium, carefully inspect canned veggie labels at the store. Some brands, particularly those labeled "organic," may contain higher sodium levels.
  • Rinse Corn. Draining and rinsing canned corn with water can help remove excess sodium, as most of it is in the liquid.

❄️ Storage and Reheating

Storage: Leftover cooked corn will last up to 4 days in the fridge in an airtight container. Reheat again before serving.

Reheating: You can reheat this corn in a skillet on the stove over medium heat or simply place a serving or two of it on a plate and microwave for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

🥗 Side Dishes or Pairing Ideas

Air fryer canned corn pairs perfectly with quick and easy mains like Chicken Drumsticks, Bratwursts, or Pork Tenderloins. You can also serve it alongside simple sides like mashed potatoes, Instant Pot Rice, dinner rolls, or a fresh garden salad for a complete, frugal meal.

❓ Recipe FAQs

How healthy is canned corn?

Corn is a great source of many vitamins and nutrients, as well as fiber. Canned veggies are just as healthy as fresh or frozen because canning helps to preserve a lot of the nutrients. Not only that, but they're shelf stable and affordable too!

Should I rinse canned corn?

According to research published by the USDA, rinsing canned vegetables can remove up to 9%-23% of the added sodium in the can. Other nutrients decreased a little as well, but not in significant amounts.

How long should you cook canned corn?

Canned corn is technically already cooked and could be cooked directly from the can if desired, but heating it always makes it taste better. Cook this corn until it is fully heated and there is no more liquid in the pan.

Can I put a can of corn in the air fryer?

Yes, but remove the corn from the can and make sure that it is in a container that will prevent any liquid from spilling around. A cake pan, bread loaf pan, or square pan may fit in your air fryer, depending on the size and model.

Equipment

  • Measuring Spoons
  • 8 inch cake pans
  • Air Fryer
  • Colander
  • Can opener

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 ounces) whole kernel corn, drained and rinsed - ($0.64)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt - ($0.01)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper - ($0.02)
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder - ($0.02)
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika, regular or smoked - ($0.02)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed - ($0.50)
  • fresh parsley, chopped, optional - ($0.26)

Instructions

  • Prepare the dish. Choose an oven-safe baking dish that fits inside your air fryer. An 8-inch cake pan works well for most 8-quart air fryers, but adjust as needed based on your air fryer size.
  • Season the corn. Add the drained and rinsed corn to the baking dish. Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika, then mix well to evenly coat the corn.
  • Add the butter. Distribute the cubed butter evenly over the top of the seasoned corn.
  • Air fry. Place the dish into the air fryer and cook at 400°F for 8 minutes.
  • Finish and serve. Remove from the air fryer, stir to coat the corn in the melted butter, top with fresh parsley if using, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Corn Substitution. Replace the canned corn with a 16-ounce bag of frozen corn; no thawing required.
  • Draining and Rinsing. Rinsing canned corn helps reduce excess sodium from the packing liquid.
  • Reheating. Reheat in a skillet over medium heat or microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Storage. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days and reheat before serving.
