💰 Budget-Friendly Tips
Buy green beans in season. Fresh green beans are usually cheapest during peak season and often available in larger bags at a lower per-pound cost.
Stick with pantry spices. Garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper are affordable staples that work across many meals.
Cook once, use twice. Make extra green beans and reuse leftovers in casseroles, stir-fries, or grain bowls later in the week.
Skip the steamer basket if needed. Cooking the beans directly in the water still works well and avoids extra equipment purchases.

👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
- Prep the Beans. Rinse the green beans well, then trim about ¼ inch from the ends. You can snap or cut them in half if you prefer smaller, uniform pieces.
- Steaming Setup. A steamer basket is helpful but not required. You can steam the beans on a trivet or cook them directly in the water like a quick boil.
- Water Amount. Use 1 cup of water for a 6 quart Instant Pot or 1½ cups for an 8 quart to allow proper pressurization.
- Season After Cooking. The water is only for steaming and will be drained. Add seasonings once the green beans are tender.
❄️ Storage and Reheating
Storage: Store cooked green beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Reheating: Reheat Instant Pot Green Beans in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute or warm gently in a skillet.

I like to use a very basic combination of salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder for my green beans when I want a simple side dish. Using minced garlic, bacon bits, cooked onions, or even parmesan cheese and lemon juice can also be great ideas for getting more flavor into your greens!
Yes, they will freeze well. Because they have already been cooked, there is nothing to do except allow the green beans to cool completely and place them in an airtight container in the freezer.
They can last up to 12 months in the freezer if properly stored! Of course, eating them sooner rather than later helps to avoid freezer burn and flavor loss.
