💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe
- They aren't soggy. French toast using English muffins instead of sandwich bread creates a great taste and texture that won't turn soggy. Perfect for those who want less of that "custard" filling in the middle.
- They're easy to make. All we have to do is mix up the egg mixture and soak our English muffins before frying to perfection. There's no additional prep needed, which helps to keep our recipe simple. It's as simple to make as traditional french toast.
- You can use flavored English muffins. Don't feel stuck with plain muffins. You can use any flavored English muffin desired. Whole wheat, cinnamon raisin, blueberry, and whole grain are all acceptable options!
🛒 Ingredients

Eggs- Eggs are a pretty necessary ingredient in french toast as that is what gives the custard-like texture and delicious flavor.
English Muffins- The stars of the show are halved English muffins. They do not need to be stale, but it's fine if they are! If you still have some left over after breakfast whip up some tasty Air Fryer English Muffin Pizza for lunch!
Brown sugar- To give us a nice caramelization and sweetness.
See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.
🔀 Substitutions & Variations
Milk: If desired, you can use whole milk or any non-dairy milk alternative for this recipe.
English muffins: Don't be afraid to try a flavored variety of English muffins for this recipe. Flavors like cinnamon raisin, blueberry, whole wheat, whole grain, or even sourdough would work well. (I happen to be a big fan of Sourdough French Toast).
💰 Budget-Friendly Tips
Use store-brand English muffins. They're usually $1-$2 cheaper per pack and work exactly the same.
Buy eggs in bulk. Large family packs typically offer the best price per egg.
Use leftover muffins. Slightly stale English muffins actually soak up custard better.

- Creamy peanut butter or Nutella
- Powdered sugar

- Whipped cream
- Fresh berries and fruits
There are endless combinations!

👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
- To keep French toast warm during batch cooking, preheat oven to 200°F and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper. Place cooked French toast on the pan and keep warm in the oven while continuing to cook.
- Avoid overcrowding pans; cook 2 or 3 English muffins in the egg mixture or skillet at a time for proper cooking.
- If you notice cooked eggs or stringy egg whites on the French toast, it indicates the egg mixture wasn't properly mixed. Whisk until no egg streaks remain, or briefly blend the mixture for better incorporation.
❄️ Storage and Reheating
Storage:
- Fridge: Store cooled French toast in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
- Freezer: Freeze in a single layer, then transfer to a container or bag. Freezes well for up to 2 months.
Reheating:
- From Frozen: Add extra time as needed or thaw overnight in the fridge for quicker reheating.
- Microwave: Heat 1-3 pieces for 30-45 seconds until warmed through.

❓ English Muffin French Toast FAQs
If you think your English muffins are "too dry," you can soak them for longer. You can soak them in the egg mixture for up to 20 minutes. Because they're thick and dense, they can handle a longer soak time.
If you find yourself with burnt french toast outside and soggy raw insides, that means that the cooking temperature was set too high. Make sure to set it to medium heat (350F) and if that proves too hot for you, lower the temp a little bit and try again.
Yes, you can soak these English muffins in the egg mixture overnight in the fridge. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and allow it to chill for up to 8 hours before cooking.
