Looking for a sugar free Italian soda recipe that you can feel good about? Great news, this recipe is it!
Inspired by our Homemade Italian Sodas, I wanted one that was a little better for you. Fewer sugar, calories, carbs, etc. This way, I could share it with diabetic family members and give my kids a special treat without overloading them on sugar (they definitely get enough of that already haha).
We have several sugar free recipes on this website including Sugar Free Pancakes and jams like Sugar Free Strawberry Jam and Sugar Free Blueberry Jam. But this is the first truly sugar free drink option (and it probably won't be the last!)
I really hope you enjoy this sparkling water Italian soda as much as we have!

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe
- It's better for you than standard Italian soda drinks. Made with just a few simple ingredients, this Keto Italian cream soda is very diet friendly and easy to incorporate into your day.
- Multiple flavor options! We make this Keto Italian soda with sparkling ice (flavored sparkling water), so there are dozens of flavorful possibilities to try.
- It's not too sweet. As you can imagine, this drink isn't too sweet, but you can always adjust that by adding in a sugar-free alternative. I like to add a little bit of whipped cream on top for added sweetness.
🛒 Ingredients

Sparkling Water- In traditional Italian soda drinks, we need sweet flavored syrup and club soda for a fizzy taste. Our sparkling water replaces both of those because it's already flavored and fizzy! Use your favorite sparkling water for this recipe, and you're sure to enjoy this drink.
Heavy Cream- Heavy cream adds a nice appearance as well as a creamy taste to help tone down some of the acidic taste of the sparkling water.
See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.
🔀 Substitutions & Variations
Heavy Cream Alternatives: Swap the heavy cream for sweetened almond milk or coconut milk for a lighter or dairy-free option. Whole milk can also work, but it's more prone to curdling in sparkling drinks (still safe to drink, just not as pretty).
Flavor Variations: Use any flavor of sparkling water you love! Black raspberry, mango-orange, and coconut-pineapple (which tastes like a mini pina colada) are especially delicious.
🥣 Recipe Add-Ins
Adding Fruits: For added natural sweetness and flavor, muddle some fresh berries at the glass base before adding other ingredients. Alternatively, include frozen mixed berries for a refreshing twist and less dilution.
"Muddling" refers to gently smashing fruits or herbs in a drink, releasing their essence. Simply mash fruit at the cup's bottom for flavor infusion.
💰 Budget-Friendly Tips
Use store-brand sparkling water instead of name brands, most taste nearly identical but cost far less.
Swap heavy cream for milk or almond milk to stretch ingredients and save money, especially if you're making several drinks.
🥄 Instructions for Keto Italian Soda
Step 1: Fill a drinking cup with ice cubes.

Step 2: Pour in enough sparkling water to bring the contents up to 1 inch below the rim of the glass.

Step 3: Add in your heavy cream.

Step 4: Mix and taste.
Step 5: Adjust as needed. If it's too acidic, add in a little more heavy cream. The exact ratio will depend upon the size of the glass up you have chosen to use.

👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
Serve Immediately: This drink tastes and looks best when enjoyed right after making it. If it sits too long, it will begin to separate and lose its creamy appearance.
Watch for Curdling: Heavy cream will start to curdle in a sparkling drink as it rests, causing small chunks to rise while the bottom becomes clearer. You have a few minutes before this happens, give it a quick stir if needed, but plan to drink it soon.

❓ Keto Italian Soda FAQs
By adding the cream last, you can allow it to gently fall to the bottom of the glass. The drink is less likely to curdle until after you have fully mixed it in. If the presentation is important with this drink, present it without stirring and have it stirred just before drinking.
Acidic drinks like sparkling water or club soda can have a distinct bitter flavor when not properly balanced. Adding in more cream to the drink can help to offset this taste.
Italian sodas are nonalcoholic drinks made with carbonated soda, flavored syrups, half and half, or cream. For this recipe, we use flavored sparkling water to replace the flavored syrup and soda for a healthier alternative.
