One of my cherished childhood memories involves ordering delivery from Godfather's, just a short drive away. Their M&M-topped streusel pizza was a highlight I always looked forward to.

As I grew older, deliveries became less frequent until I completely forgot about this part of my childhood. When the memory resurfaced, I was disappointed to find that M&Ms were no longer available.

Unable to afford delivery every time I craved it, I decided to recreate my own Godfather's streusel dessert pizza. To my delight, this copycat version is just as satisfying as the original.

Pair this dessert pizza with homemade pizzas using Pizza Dough In a Bag for a frugal pizza night. Don't forget to include some classic pizzas like French Bread Pepperoni Pizza, Air Fryer English Muffin Pizza, or Pepperoni Pizza Pasta Bake.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Buzz From Readers

"I didn't have bread flour, but all purpose flour still made this really yummy. Tender, slightly chewy crust and really good flavor, with or without mini M&Ms. This was so tasty and a fun treat for our family. Thanks!"

- Lisa

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. More affordable than delivery. Making dessert pizza at home costs far less than ordering out, and there's no delivery fee or tip to worry about.
  2. Fast and easy. There's no long rise time required. Just a few short steps make this a great last minute dessert option.
  3. Make ahead friendly. Prepare the dough in advance and store it covered in the fridge for up to one day. Bake as directed and enjoy a sweet treat any night of the week.

🛒 Ingredients

Yeast. Active dry or instant yeast works to help the dough rise.

Flour. All purpose or bread flour can be used to form the dough.

Butter. Melted butter is brushed on the pizza to add flavor and help the topping stick.

Shortening or Butter. Used for the streusel topping. Shortening holds up well, but cold butter works too.

Mini M&Ms (Optional). A fun addition to the topping if you want extra color and sweetness.

See the recipe card below for full ingredients and instructions.

💰 Budget-Friendly Tips

Homemade dough over store-bought: Making your own pizza dough costs just pennies compared to refrigerated or bakery dough and uses pantry staples you likely already have.

Stretch ingredients across recipes: The extra streusel can be saved and used on muffins, quick breads, or oatmeal, turning one prep into multiple desserts.

Use what you have: If you already have shortening, oil, or even leftover candy from holidays, this recipe is a great way to use them up instead of buying new toppings.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

  1. Pizza Dough Options. Store bought pizza dough works well if you are short on time, but homemade dough adds extra flavor.
  2. Homemade Pizza Night. Double or triple the dough and turn it into a full pizza night, finishing with this dessert pizza for a fun treat.
  3. Flour Choice. All purpose flour works great, but bread flour gives a more classic, delivery style dough flavor.
  4. Leftover Streusel. Extra streusel can be saved in the fridge and used to top muffins or another cinnamon streusel dessert pizza later.

❄️ Storage, Reheating & Make Ahead

Storage: Store leftover Cinnamon Streusel Dessert Pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.

Reheating: Reheat slices in the microwave for 30-60 seconds for a soft texture, or warm in a 300°F oven for a few minutes to avoid drying out.

Make Ahead: The pizza dough can be made up to 2 days in advance and stored in the fridge. Streusel can also be prepared ahead and kept covered until ready to use. Assemble and bake close to serving time for best texture.

🥗 Side Dishes or Pairing Ideas

Serve Cinnamon Streusel Dessert Pizza with milk, hot cocoa, or coffee for a cozy dessert. This also works well as a fun dessert option after a homemade pizza night, keeping the entire meal budget-friendly from start to finish.

❓ Recipe FAQs

How long is leftover dessert pizza good for?

This leftover pizza is good in the fridge for about 3-5 days. I recommend reheating for a minute in the microwave for that fresh delivered taste and a softer chew.

Can I make streusel dessert pizza in advance?

The pizza dough can be made up to 2 days in advance and stored in the fridge in an airtight container or wrapped well with plastic wrap. I would wait until you're at least within a few hours of eating before preparing the entire dessert pizza though.

Do I eat streusel dessert pizza cold or warm?

Either! While it tastes good cold, I recommend enjoying it while it's nice and warm. That's how Godfathers serves it. 😉

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted - ($0.12)

Icing

  • ¾ cup powdered sugar - ($0.27)
  • 1 tablespoon warm water - ($0.00)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract - ($0.01)
US Customary - Metric

Instructions

  • Make the pizza dough. In a large bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add the flour, sugar, salt, and olive oil. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead and rest. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and place the dough inside. Let rest while the oven preheats.
  • Preheat the oven. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  • Make the streusel. In a bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, olive oil, and shortening until large pea-sized crumbs form. Set aside.
  • Prepare the cinnamon butter. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter and cinnamon until combined.
  • Assemble. Press the rested dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared cake pan. Brush the cinnamon butter over the dough. Sprinkle the streusel mixture evenly over the top, reserving any extra for later use. Sprinkle with the mini M&Ms.
  • Bake. Bake for about 10 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool slightly. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Make the icing and serve. Stir together the powdered sugar, water, and vanilla until smooth. Transfer to a plastic bag, snip the corner, and drizzle over the dessert pizza. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • Make it a meal. Double or triple the pizza dough to enjoy savory pizza alongside dessert.
  • Flour choice. Bread flour adds a slightly chewier, more authentic pizza texture, but all-purpose flour works well.
  • Make ahead. Pizza dough can be made up to 2 days in advance and refrigerated. For best results, assemble and bake the dessert pizza close to serving time.
  • Storage. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. Reheat briefly in the microwave for a softer texture.

I didn't have bread flour, but all purpose flour still made this really yummy. Tender, slightly chewy crust and really good flavor, with or without mini M&Ms. If you want the glaze to be blobs like Godfather's, don't water it down by adding more than what's in the recipe. This was so tasty and a fun treat for our family. Thanks!
