Cooking hot dogs in the Instant Pot is a favorite method of mine, especially during summer when I want to avoid heating up the house. It's perfect for frozen hot dogs and large batches, making it ideal for gatherings.

This method offers a speedy and satisfying way to enjoy the classic American treat, much quicker than traditional outdoor grilling. Plus, it ensures juicy, flavorful hot dogs every time.

Whether you're hosting a summer barbecue or craving a quick meal, hot dogs are sure to hit the spot. I often use this method when planning park birthday celebrations for my kids; the hot dogs stay warm for hours!

Serve them with Dill Pickle Potato Salad, Old Fashioned Lemonade, and Easy Patriotic Fireworks Bundt Cake for a festive and fun summer meal.

💛 Why You'll Love This Recipe

  1. Crispier skin. Steaming exposes hot dogs to more air than boiling, helping the skin tighten and crisp slightly. Plus, there's no big pot of hot dog water to deal with afterward.
  2. Quick and easy. Just hot dogs, water, and a little patience. Prep is minimal and they're ready fast.
  3. Scales easily. Make one pack or several with no adjustments needed. It's perfect for parties, potlucks, and casual gatherings.

💰 Budget-Friendly Tips

Buy family packs: Larger packs of hot dogs usually cost less per piece and freeze well.

Use water, not broth: Hot dogs are already seasoned, so plain water keeps costs down.

Cook in batches: Making several packages at once saves time and energy.

👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

Batch size matters. For one pack of hot dogs, stacking them on the trivet works best. For larger batches, stand them upright in a steamer basket so you can fit more.

Same cook time. No matter how many hot dogs you add to the pot, the cooking time stays the same.

❄️ Storage, Reheating & Make Ahead

Storage: Store cooked hot dogs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheating: Reheat in the microwave, on the stovetop in hot water, or briefly in the air fryer until warmed through.

Make Ahead: Hot dogs can be cooked ahead and refrigerated. Reheat as needed for quick meals or lunches.

❓ Recipe FAQs

Can I cook frozen hot dogs in the Instant Pot?

Absolutely! You can make a lot or just a few hot dogs in Instant Pot. For a small amount (like one package of 8 count), then do not change the time at all. For larger amounts, adjust the cooking time to 1 minute instead of zero.

Can I use something other than water to steam the hot dogs?

Yes. You can use water, broth stocks, or even beer! All of them work great but just make sure you have 1-1.5 cups of liquid in the Instant Pot as that will help it to get up to temperature and cook properly.

How do you keep hotdogs warm in an Instant Pot?

After cooking your hot dogs and releasing the pressure, open the lid and place it back down. You can unplug the Instant Pot and have it "keep warm" for up to 2 hours. Note that the hot dogs may break or burst from prolonged exposure to the heat.
