This crochet soap holder pattern is beginner-friendly and uses less than a skein of worsted weight cotton yarn, making it a frugal and purposeful addition to your bathroom or gifting stash. Try it with our Crochet Loofah Pattern for a matching set!

It's a great companion project to my Crochet Bento Bag, which also uses cotton yarn and works up quickly. The stitches here are repetitive and relaxing, and the final result is both functional and adorable.

This bag pairs beautifully with other bathroom DIYs like my The BEST Homemade Window Cleaner or DIY Orange Peel Cleaner for a fully eco-friendly experience. This pattern uses puff stitches to help lightly exfoliate, and the mesh rounds allow for quick drying between uses.

If you've tried my Crochet Onion Holder, this will feel familiar in structure, but for soap instead of produce.

  • Scissors- For cutting the yarn as needed

✂️Expert Tips

Cotton yarn is a must. It absorbs water and dries quickly. Avoid acrylic. Because you use the soap while it's in the bag, the soft absorbent cotton yarn acts like a wash cloth against your skin.

If you're gifting these, pair them with my Crochet Towel Toppers for a matching kitchen or bath set.

Add a tag and bar of soap for a great homemade gift! These bags are the perfect size for Dr. Squatch Soap.

🧵Pattern FAQs

What is the best yarn for soap saver projects?

Worsted weight 100% cotton yarn is ideal. It holds up well in water, dries fast, and is machine washable. Avoid anything with synthetic fibers.

Can I machine wash crochet soap savers?

Yes! Toss it in a mesh laundry bag and wash with towels. Air dry to preserve shape.

How often should I change my crochet soap saver?

Since crochet soap savers are made from natural fibers like cotton, it's important to let them dry between uses to prevent mildew. For best hygiene, replace your soap bag every 2-4 months, or sanitize it regularly by boiling, washing in the machine, or soaking in vinegar.

What are crochet soap savers used for?

They act like a washcloth and soap holder in one, helping you gently exfoliate while getting the most out of your bar soap. They're especially handy when traveling, camping, or living a low-waste lifestyle.

Are soap saver bags worth it?

Absolutely. One major perk is their ability to save tiny leftover soap bits. Just toss in your slivers with a new bar, and they'll fuse together over time, no waste! It's a great frugal habit, just like making your own cleaners.

What's the point of a soap saver bag anyway?

A soap saver helps your soap last longer by allowing it to dry out properly between uses, especially compared to setting it on a ledge or shower shelf.
