puff stitch: yo, pull through, yo, pull through, yo, pull through, then yo and pull through all loops on hook at once to create a puff ball
Instructions
Round 1: Chain 20. Single crochet (sc) in the second chain from the hook and across the row (18 sts). Turn and work along the backside of the chain, sc in each chain (18 sts).
Join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first sc. (Total 36 sts)
Rounds 2–5: Single crochet in each stitch around. Join each round with a slip stitch.
Round 6: sc, puff stitch, sc, puff stitch, repeat around the round.
(Puff stitch is worked by yarning over, pulling through, yarning over and pulling through, repeating until you have multiple loops on hook, then yarning over and pulling through all loops at once to create a puff ball.)
Round 7: Single crochet around the entire round.
Rounds 8–18 (Mesh Rounds): Start with a single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc) in the first stitch. Chain 1, skip 1 stitch, dc, chain 1, skip 1 stitch, dc; repeat this pattern around until returning to the initial sc/dc pair.
Now, make a double crochet (dc) in the space between the two previous stitches, then continue repeating dc, chain 1, skip 1, dc around.
You should have about 10 mesh rows by the end of round 18; add more mesh rows if desired.
Round 19 (Hanging Loop): Slip stitch in the first stitch, chain 15, then slip stitch back into the same stitch to form a hanging loop.
Finishing Edge: Work one full round of single crochet around the top edge. At the end of the round, slip stitch and chain 60.
Fasten off and weave the yarn end through the chain.
Finishing: Flip the bag inside out. Weave the long chain through the top mesh round. Place your soap inside the bag, pull the chain to cinch the top, and tie a small bow to secure.
Hang, use, and enjoy your soap saver!
Notes
Best Yarn for Soap Saver: Use 100% cotton yarn—it’s absorbent, durable, and machine washable. Avoid acrylic as it doesn’t dry well and can harbor bacteria.
Let your crochet soap bag dry completely between uses to extend its life.
Easily sanitize by tossing in the washing machine, soaking in vinegar, or boiling for a few minutes.
Works great for bar soap scraps, just tuck them in with a new bar to avoid waste!
Perfect for travel, camping, or a low-waste bathroom routine.
