At Beeyond Cereal, operated by Honeycomb Media LLC, I provide estimated recipe costs as a resource to help readers make informed choices about meal planning and grocery budgeting.
Please note that all prices listed are estimates only.
Why Prices Vary
The total cost per recipe and per serving will vary based on:
- Your location and local grocery store pricing
- What you already have on hand
- Seasonal price fluctuations
- Sales, coupons, and discounts
- Brand variations
Because of these factors, exact costs cannot be determined or anticipated for every reader.
All prices are listed in USD and are based on my location and experiences.
How I Calculate Recipe Costs
For most ingredients, I use Walmart's online grocery ordering service to look up current prices. If an ingredient needs to be scaled down, I calculate the cost by portion.
Example:
- A box of butter (4 sticks) costs $2.98.
- One stick = $2.98 ÷ 4 = $0.75.
- Each stick has 8 tablespoons, so the cost per tablespoon is then scaled down as needed.
This same method is applied to all products.
👉 Note: I do not calculate or include prices for optional or suggested ingredients-only those required to complete the recipe.
Rounding Estimates
When calculations result in three or more decimal points, I round to the nearest cent.
- $0.0735 → $0.74
- $0.0753 → $0.73
Pricing Errors
As much as I strive for accuracy, I am human and mistakes may occur. I reserve the right to make errors when calculating prices.
Tips to Save Money on Recipes
For deeper guidance, see my Grocery Tips Page, where I share strategies on:
- Couponing
- Meal planning
- Stockpiling food on a budget
- Reducing grocery expenses
Quick tip: Always start with what's already in your pantry. For example:
My Sheet Pan Chicken, Brussels Sprouts, and Potatoes costs $10.94 per recipe / $1.82 per serving.
But if you already have chicken thighs at home, you save $5.64 right away. Costs drop even further if you already have potatoes or sprouts.
This mindful approach to meal planning makes a big difference over time.
Final Note
Budgeting is more than a habit-it's a lifestyle. It takes time to adjust, but once you get into the rhythm, you'll see the benefits for years to come.
