Instructions

Preheat and prepare. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8x8-inch or 9x9-inch baking dish.
Melt the butter. In a mixing bowl, melt the butter and let cool for about 1 minute.
Add sugar and vanilla. Whisk in the vanilla extract and granulated sugar until combined.
Add eggs. Use a fork to mix in the eggs, one at a time, until incorporated.
Add cocoa. Stir in the cocoa powder until smooth.
Finish the batter. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt, stirring just until combined.
Bake. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20 to 22 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cool briefly. Let the brownies cool for 10 minutes before preparing the frosting.
Make the frosting. Beat the softened butter, powdered sugar, milk, and cocoa powder together until smooth.
Frost and set. Spread the frosting evenly over the brownies and allow to cool for 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
