Warm, cozy, and full of fall flavor, this Crockpot Apple Cider Recipe uses whole apples, spices, and citrus for the perfect old fashioned hot apple cider made right in your slow cooker. It’s an easy crockpot apple cider recipe that fills your home with the best autumn aroma and tastes even better than store-bought cider.
Load the slow cooker. Add the apples, orange slices, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and water to a 6 to 7-quart slow cooker.
Cook. Cover and cook on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours or LOW for 6 to 8 hours, until the apples are very soft.
Mash. Use a potato masher to gently crush the apples, releasing their juices and flavor.
Strain. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, pressing gently to extract as much liquid as possible. Return the cider to the slow cooker and set to WARM.
Adjust. Taste and adjust with additional sugar or spices if needed.
Serve. Ladle into mugs and serve warm.
Notes
Appearance. Ground spices will make the cider cloudy. This is normal and adds depth of flavor.
Flavor strength. If the cider tastes weak, simmer uncovered for 20 to 30 minutes to concentrate it.
Apple choices. Any apples work. A mix of sweet and tart varieties gives the best balance.
Texture. Strain twice or let the cider rest so spices settle for a smoother finish.
Leftovers. Freeze in portioned containers for easy single-serving mugs.
