Kick it up a notch in heat and flavor with this juicy oven roasted cajun turkey breast. All white meat and all easy to make in your oven with just a few minutes of prep!
Mix the seasoning. In a small bowl, combine Cajun seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes.
Prepare the turkey. Pat the turkey breast dry with paper towels and place it on a baking sheet or in a roasting pan.
Oil and season. Rub olive oil all over the turkey, including under the skin if possible. Press the seasoning mixture evenly over the entire turkey.
Rest. Let the seasoned turkey sit at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes to help flavors absorb and promote even cooking.
Roast. Roast uncovered for about 20 minutes per pound, or until the thickest part reaches 165°F. A 6 pound turkey breast typically takes 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. Tent loosely with foil if the skin browns too quickly.
Rest and slice. Let the turkey rest for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing to retain juices.
Notes
Turkey cut: A bone in turkey breast is different from a turkey breast roast and is ideal for making stock after cooking.
Juiciness: Use an oven safe thermometer and remove the turkey at 165°F. Resting is key to preventing dryness.
Skin texture: Roast uncovered for crispy skin. Tent with foil only if needed.
Timing: Cook time varies by oven and size. Always rely on temperature rather than time alone.
