Making cake mix cookies is very simple and easy, which is why these chocolate cake mix cookies are so great. Made quickly and with just a few simple ingredients, these are my go-to cookies around the holiday.

    🥘 Ingredients

Devil's Food Cake Boxed Cake Mix- You can use any box of cake mix for this recipe, but make sure to only use the dry mix from the box. You will NOT be preparing it according to the package directions.

Eggs- Use eggs as a binding agent to hold the cookies together.

Vegetable oil- Added oil will help the cookies to stay moist and flavorful.

Halloween M&Ms- You will want a bag of festively colored M&Ms for these cookies.

For specific quantities, see the recipe card below.

    • Electric Mixer

    🔪 Instructions

Check out how to make chocolate Halloween M&M cake mix cookies with these simple step-by-step instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix eggs and oil until well combined. Stir in ½ cup of Halloween M&Ms until well mixed.

a bowl full of M and m's and chocolate cookie dough

Use your hands to make about 30 even balls of dough; line them up on your baking sheet. The balls will be about 1-2 tablespoons worth of dough in size.

Top the dough balls with the remaining M&Ms. Bake for 10 minutes.

Let cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

    🍴 Recipe Tips

Dough consistency. If your cookie dough doesn't hold together well and appears to be too wet, add in ¼ cup of all-purpose flour. You want your dough to be thick enough that you can roll it into balls without it sticking to your hands.

Cake mixes. I use Devil's food cake, but you can use any type of cake mix for these chocolate cake mix cookies recipes. I just think that there's a poetic touch added when using Devil's food for a Halloween recipe but feel free to use other flavors like red velvet, yellow, cherry chip, etc.

Different M&Ms. I love the Hocus Pocus blend of M&Ms but any Halloween-themed M&M bag will do (even non-Halloween colors will work if you don't want it to be tied to a specific holiday).

    💭 FAQs

How long is this cake mix cookie recipe good for?

These cookies can last about 4 or 5 days in an airtight container at room temperature. This should give you plenty of time to enjoy and share with friends and family.

Can I freeze M&M chocolate cookies?

Yes, these cookies can be cooled completely and then frozen in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Simply allow the cookies to thaw at room temperature before eating.

What size cake mix should I use for cookies?

Back in the day, boxes of cake mix were about 18 ounces in size, but in the more recent years, they have been 15.25 ounces, making 15.25 ounce sized boxes the new "normal" and "standard" sized box. To make cookies, you should use a 15.25 ounce sized box of cake mix, unless directed otherwise.
