This isn't our first fruity ice cream recipe. If you check out our Strawberry Mason Jar Ice Cream, you'll see that we're big fans of fruit in our frozen desserts. But the speed and convenience of this recipe help it rank higher in our hearts.
Made with your favorite frozen fruits, this recipe is perfect for adding in some needed vitamins and fiber while enjoying every spoonful. You will love this mixed berry sherbet!
Why This Recipe Works
- It's quick and easy. You only need three ingredients and a blender, and within 5 minutes, you've got a dessert ready to dig into. When I say this recipe is fast and easy, I truly mean it!
- It's delicious and adjustable. Use a mixed berry blend as we do, or simply pick a single berry option like plain strawberries or blueberries. There are so many tasty possibilities!
- A healthier alternative. With less added fats and sugars than traditional ice cream and more fruits in every bite, this is a treat you can feel great about serving up to your family.

🥘 Ingredients
Frozen fruit- Use already frozen fruit for this recipe because it will help to make it thick and chilled like ice cream. Using fresh fruits will not turn out well. The colder the fruit, the better. If using fresh, you'll need to add ice cubes.
Heavy cream- Adding in heavy cream will give us a richer, creamier taste and consistency that makes this dessert feel more like the ice cream we already know and love.
Powdered sugar- For added sweetness to help cut down on the tart taste of some of the berries, you'll want to add in powdered sugar. This will add sweetness without changing the consistency like granulated sugar would do.

🧾 Substitutions
Frozen fruit: You can use any frozen fruit! I usually just use a 16 ounce package of mixed frozen berries, but you can easily use frozen strawberries or other berries instead. Fresh berries that you froze yourself or a bag of already frozen fruit from the store should both work fine.
🍴 Recipe Tips
Extra sweetness
You can add up to another ½ cup of additional powdered sugar for a sweeter dessert. I find that ½ cup is perfect, but if your fruit is a little more on the tart side, you may wish to add in more.
👩🏻🍳 Storage
I recommend only making this recipe right before serving because once you refreeze it, the texture changes, and it isn't as smooth and creamy as it once was.
You can freeze it in an airtight container for up to a week. But it's best when served fresh and right after making it.
💭 FAQs
If you want to use a different sweetener for this recipe, I would recommend sticking with softer textured sugars or sugar free alternatives like Truvia. If using wet sweeteners like honey, add it in last and only "to taste" because too much can make the recipe into a smoothie consistency instead of like ice cream.
The two are very similar, and the names are often interchanged, but traditionally, sherbet is made with dairy, and sorbet is made without. We use dairy in this recipe because we use heavy cream for added fats and consistency.
When comparing sorbet, sherbet, and ice cream, you'll find more nutrients in sherbet than the other two, but more fats, calcium, and protein than sorbet. Both sorbet and sherbet contain fewer fats, sugars, and calories than ice cream.
